McComack: Chamber focus takes ONE thing at a time

Happy New Year!

The radio has been talking a lot about the New Year and the new vision of starting over and doing better with the exercise or not eating out as much, etc.

It can be overwhelming with all this “newness” of opportunity. I’ve felt it myself, not with just the rush of the holiday season, but a chance to do things differently.

What do you tackle first?

After much prayer and thought, it comes to me that we should try to focus on ONE thing at a time.

It’s OK to make a list of things, and of course, everything seems like a “priority.” But regardless, we need to try to focus on ONE! Then move on to the next thing.

I’ve learned over the years it’s better to do “something” than “nothing.” Don’t let the overwhelming feeling of what needs to be done keep you from doing something.

The Board of Directors is reorganizing for the new year.

They will start off with the annual orientation, then a welcome reception along with committee volunteers. This is something new that came from the retreat dialogue.

We’re hoping this informal networking opportunity will allow the Board members a chance to get to know the volunteers better and vice versa.

The Annual Banquet and Installation will be held Jan. 19 at Ormond Plantation. Michael Hecht of GNO Inc. will serve as guest speaker for this event.

The Chamber’s committees are also doing some reorganization of their own. We’re looking for a few good people!

As the board finalizes its goals this month, volunteers will go into high gear to strategize on making these goals happen. If you’d like to be a part of this work, we encourage you to strongly consider one of the opportunities below:

• Ambassadors

• Business Development

• Workforce Development

• Communications

• Public Policy

A breakdown of the above can be found on the chamber website at riverregionchamber.org/pages/committees

We are so happy to announce that the Chamber Directory and Community Profile is updated and complete!

We’re excited to share this resource with you. Directories will be available at the Chamber’s office, local hotels, libraries, parish offices and member offices.

Stop by the Chamber office to pick up your copy.

If you’re a current member, and want to learn more about becoming an annual investor to help make sure your business name and logo are seen and heard at Chamber events throughout the year, contact me or Janine at the Chamber to find out how.

Also, don’t forget to use the new member app. This is an added new benefit to help keep you connected with the who and what’s going on with your Chamber.
