Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

As we look forward to the holiday season with Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, now is a great time to remind everyone to celebrate with family and friends by shopping locally.

Each year in November, the Economic Development Department launches a campaign to promote locally owned and operated businesses in St. John Parish.

The Shop Local campaign strives to educate consumers, business owners, and the St. John Community about the many benefits of spending locally. You will hear radio ads and may see signage around the Parish promoting this initiative, but everyone is encouraged to actually do their part by shopping in St. John Parish.

Black Friday, Small Business Saturday (Nov. 25th) and throughout the holiday season are excellent opportunities to support our friends and neighbors who significantly support our community.

Residents and businesses should also be on the lookout for the annual Shop Local trivia game in the mail with clues to shopping at local businesses. If the correct answers are selected and returned, residents will be entered in a drawing to win prizes from local retailers.

Residents can mail in completed trivia games to 1811 W. Airline Hwy., LaPlace 70068, or drop them off in the Shop Local collection boxes located at the Government Complex – Reception Desk (1811 W. Airline Hwy., LaPlace) or in the St. John Courthouse foyer (2393 Highway 18, Edgard).

Remember, for every $100 spent in St. John, $68 stays in the Parish. Please shop locally this holiday season and support the local businesses who are an integral part of what makes St. John a great place to live, work and play.  For additional information or to get a shop local sign for your business, please call the Economic Development Department at 985-652-9569.

Happy Holidays,

Jaclyn Hotard
