SULPHUR — The St. Charles Catholic Comets won the high school’s first ever baseball state championship this afternoon, topping University High 7-4 in Sulphur.

The Comets were led by strong pitching and a complete game from Nick Lorio and a hot offense, which struck early and often.

The Comets advanced to today’s championship game on the strength of a 5-2 semifinal victory over St. Thomas More.
