RESERVE—With the absence of News Editor, Brooke R. Cantrelle, L’OBSERVATEUR has been finding stories of local interest through other means. Brooke, an excellent writer, usually creates content. I, however, do not possess her advanced skills of storytelling that comes from years of practice. When fully staffed my job is mostly administrative and running the day-to-day operations. So, as the song says, “I get by with a little help from my friends”.

One our many friends is Lori Lyons, the Journalism/Multimedia Teacher at Riverside Academy. Lyons is a seasoned journalist having been a sports and features writer for many years. She even spent time at L’OBSERVATEUR and has written stories for us on other occasions. She is now the faculty adviser of The Rebel Express.

The Rebel Express is a student produced online publication. It is school news with technological bells and whistles. In addition to covering events and people, there are photo galleries, videos and even a podcast.

Lyons has graciously allowed L’OBSERVATEUR to share stories written by her talented students. Last week, L’OBSERVATEUR’s sales person and resident photographer, Gene Franques, and I paid a visit to the Journalism Class to bring copies of the latest River Parishes Magazine and newspapers.  Both the magazine and the sports page featured stories by The Rebel Express Editor, Kallie Bourgeois.

While there we were able to visit with the students and thank them for their help.

The Rebel Express can be found at rebelexpress.net.
