Evelyn M. Lennix Mitchell

Evelyn M. Lennix Mitchell, born Dec. 13, 1932, in LaPlace, passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2019, at her home in El Paso, Texas.

Evelyn was the daughter of the late Florence Victor and Harry Lennix Sr. of LaPlace.

As a young child, Evelyn accepted Christ and attended Our Lady of Grace Church in Reserve.

Evelyn worked as an educator in Louisiana.

She married Richard A. Mitchell Sr. of LaPlace. In 1958, they settled in El Paso, Texas, near Fort Bliss Army Base, where Richard was stationed, to raise their family.

In El Paso, Evelyn worked with Project Bravo for many years. She also was a seamstress and loved to work in her rose garden.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and four siblings: Mary Marjorie Cheeks, Harry Lennix Jr., Lowery Lennix Sr. and Roland Lennix Sr.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Richard A. Mitchell Jr. (Heroina), Ellery B. Mitchell, Nelwyn M. Rosario; a granddaughter, Esther M. Rosario; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation was held at Hillcrest Funeral Home on Feb. 7.

A Funeral Mass was held Feb. 8 at San Antonio Catholic Church in El Paso, Texas. Interment was at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso.
