Richard “Dick” Sickels passed away at his residence surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the age of 84.  He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa and was a cherished resident of LaPlace, La. for the past 56 years.

  Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from market research at AC Nielsen/Dun & Bradstreet after a full career. Afterwards, Dick became a realtor. He dedicated over 20 years to the Louisiana Federal Credit Union on the Board of Directors. As a religious man, he faithfully served St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church as the Senior Warden for many years and regularly welcomed people at the door. Dick had a gift for everything sports, from playing golf to giving back to his community as a beloved coach for baseball and soccer, teaching both his daughter and son. Dick enjoyed watching western movies, listening to Johnny Cash, collecting a variety of “treasures”, and traveling the country and world.

  Dick was a beloved husband for 60 years to Sue Hiser Sickels, loving father of Kristi Sickels Pohland (Ric), and Richard Lee Sickels II (Rachel), and grandfather of Madeline and Bonnie Pohland, Abigail Sickels Molaison (Brett), Benjamin, Catherine, Lilly and Christopher Sickels.

  Dick was the son of the late Clarence Sickels and Peggy Sickels Young and is preceded in death by his brothers, Bob and Denny Sickels. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

  Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at St. Timothy Episcopal Church, 1101 Belle Alliance Dr. LaPlace on Saturday, April 6, 2024.  Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., memorial service at 2 p.m. and reception to follow in parish hall.
