BOVIE
EDGARD – Louise “Pie” Young Bovie, 67, a native of Edgard and resident of Marrero, died Sept. 2. She was the wife of the late Esler Bovie Sr. and mother of Cheryl Armstead, Wanda Mays, Toni Mays, Myrna Potter, Marilyn Pearley and Trudy, Gerald and Esler Jr. and the late Bobbie Jean Bovie.
She was the daughter of Ophelia Y. Lumar and the late Cleveland Young; stepdaughter of the late Otis Lumar Sr.; and sister of Lorenza Simmons, Yolanda Miller, Joyce Marquez and Charles, Vernon, Otis Jr. and the late Claudell Lumar.
She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was a former employee of Belle Chasse State School and a retired cosmetologist.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Greater New St. Peter Baptist Church, Edgard, with interment at Restlawn Park, Avondale. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
DALLON
KILLONA – Gladys Washington Dallon, 80, a native of Raceland and resident of Killona for 50 years, died Aug. 30. She was the wife of Joseph Dallon Sr.; mother of Deborah Dallon and the late Lawrence London; and stepmother of Hazel and Joseph Dallon Jr.
She was the daughter of the late Lucreda Hadley and William Washington and sister of Ella Mae Chambers, Daisyette Tolliver, Julia Lewis, Athenette Nobles, Linda Taylor, Wilton Matthews, Clifford Washington and the late Dorothy Williams.
She is also survived by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were Sept. 6 at Children of Israel Baptist Church, Killona, with interment at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Taft.
KNIGHT
MT. AIRY – Gilbert Knight Sr., 81, a native and resident of Mt. Airy, died Sept. 2. He was the husband of the late Marjorie J. Knight and father of Terry Bell, Betty Charles and Marlene, Darlene, Felton, Vernett, Alton, Gilbert Jr. and the late Lois Knight.
He was also the brother of Claude Knight Sr.
He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was a retired operator for Colonial Sugar Refinery.
Services were Sept. 6 at St. Mark Baptist Church, Mt. Airy, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.
MURRAY
HAHNVILLE – Lionel “Boudreaux” Murray, 42, a native of Hahnville and resident of Marrero, died Sept. 1. He was the companion of Lillie “Kissie” Scott and father of Dana, Bianca and Kimberly Scott.
He was the son of Evelena Johnson and brother of Roderick Darensbourg and the late Reynard and Louis Murray Jr.
He is also survived by two grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church, Hahnville, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
OUBRE
GARYVILLE – Catherine N. Oubre, 82, a native and resident of Garyville, died Sept. 5. She was the wife of Richard G. Oubre Sr. and mother of Cathy Montz, Cheryl Louque and Richard Oubre Jr.
She was the daughter of the late Epifanio and Anna Navarra and sister of Marie Guidry, Vita Monica, Clara Oubre and Frances Falgoust.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Garyville, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
SAWAYA
METAIRIE – The Rev. Abraham “Brother Pete” P. Sawaya, 88, a native of Garyville and resident of Kenner for 28 years, died Sept. 3. He was the husband of Mattie Ridgway Sawaya and father of Pauline Robertson and Katherine, Mattie, Johnny and Wallace Sawaya.
He was the brother of Gloria Windom, Ruth Jinwright, Katie Lancaster, Norma Bonch and Bob Bonch.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was a minister with the Metropolitan Peace Officers Association.
Services were Sept. 6 in the chapel of Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Garden of Memories.
SKIPPER
NEW ORLEANS – Evelyn Ross Skipper, 84, a native of Lutcher and resident of New Orleans for 65 years, died Aug. 28. She was the daughter of Florence Barber Ross and the late Paul Ross Sr. and sister of Virginia Watson, Geraldine Banks and the late Gladys Kelly, Georgia King, Viola Singleton and Paul Jr., Otis, James and Thomas Ross.
She was a retired employee of the Orleans Parish School Board.
Services were Sept. 6 at Caffin Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church, New Orleans, with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
STIPE
EDGARD – Andrew Stipe, 51, a native and resident of Edgard, died Aug. 31. He was the father of Nicole, Andrew Jr. and Angela Stipe.
He was the son of Cerelia Stipe and the late Harry Stipe Sr. and brother of Loretta Smith, Roxanne McDaniel and Julie, Harry Jr. and the late Michael, Jeffery, Donald and Patrick Stipe.
He is also survived by four grandchildren.
Services were Sept. 6 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Taft.
THEARD
NEW ORLEANS – Catherine Poche Theard, 63, a native of Wallace and resident of New Orleans for many years, died Sept. 2. She was the wife of the late Frederick Theard and mother of Alicia Morrison, Denise Clark, June Cavalier, Patricia, Barbara, Ronald, Donald and Michael Theard and the late Trenell Honeycutt.
She was the daughter of the late Eugene and Lorenza D. Poche and sister of Clementine Grows, Dorothy Glapion, Geraldine Gray, Celeste Oubre and Isabella, Lorenza and the late Camille, Roy, Curtis, Clement, Eugene and Harold Poche.
She is also survived by 33 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, New Orleans, with interment at Willow Grove Cemetery, Wallace. Visitation is at 9 a.m. at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, New Orleans, and at noon at Morning Star Baptist Church, Wallace.
TWILBECK
KENNER – Eugene H. “Gene” Twilbeck Jr., 44, a native of New Orleans and resident of Kenner, died Aug. 31. He was the former husband of Vivian Slaven Twilbeck and father of Nicole and Tiffany Twilbeck.
He was the son of the late Eugene Sr. and Cora Clement Twilbeck and brother of Mary Ann Senia, Gloria Miller, Jeannette Migliore and Glenn Twilbeck.
He was a graduate of St. Charles Borromeo High School and a former instrument technician at Shell Refinery in Norco.
Services were Sept. 6 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Kenner, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan.
