Area residents earn Biblical certifications

NEW ORLEANS — A few River Parishes residents recently received biblical teaching or biblical studies certificates from Leavell College at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Leah Dunn of LaPlace received a biblical teaching certificate.

Dunn is a youth teacher at First Community Antioch Baptist Church in Lutcher.

An accredited seminary, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary offers associate, baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees in biblical studies, theology, pastoral ministry, church history, Christian education, counseling and music.

The seminary is owned and supported by the Southern Baptist Convention.

Yvonne Scott of Lutcher received a biblical teaching certificate.

Scott also holds bachelor of science and master of education degrees from Southern University in Baton Rouge.

Alex Scott of Lutcher received the biblical teaching certificate.

Cheryl Parquet of Gramercy received the biblical studies certificate.

Parquet, adult Sunday school teacher at First Community Antioch Baptist Church in Gramercy, is the daughter of Adeline and Frank Alexis Sr. of Mt. Airy.

Denora Gaines of Lutcher received a Christian education certificate.

Gaines, Sunday school teacher and assistant director of the prayer ministry at First Community Antioch Baptist Church in Lutcher, also holds the bachelor of liberal studies in mathematics and teacher certification from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge.
