State Rep. Schexnayder seeking Dist. 81 reelection

LAPLACE — State Rep. Clay Schexnayder announced he is a candidate for re-election in the Oct. 24 election.

Early voting is from Oct. 10-17 at the Clerk of Court’s Office.

Schexnayder is completing his first term representing District 81, which is comprised of portions of four parishes and numerous communities in Livingston, Ascension, St. James and St. John the Baptist Parishes.

He serves on the Civil Law and Procedure, Labor and Industrial Relations, Natural Resources and Environment, Legis-lative Audit Advisory Council and the House Select Committee on Homeland Security committees.

Schexnayder is a member of several legislative delegations, including the Acadiana Delegation, Capital Region Delegation, the Rural Caucus and the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation.

“It is an honor and privilege to represent you in our state legislature,” Schex-nayder said.

“I will continue to work to bring increased economic opportunities to our district, support efforts to strengthen our educational system, improve infrastructure and protect the way of life we all enjoy and wish to pass on to future generations. I humbly ask for your support so I may continue to work on behalf of the people of our district and Louisiana.”

As the owner/operator of a small business, Schexnayder said he has a unique perspective into important legislation affecting the 80,000 small companies with employees in Louisiana.

“I know what it means to go to work, manage a business, meet a payroll and pay taxes,” he said.

As our state representative, Schexnayder worked to bring $363 million in projects and grants to District 81. He said he consistently supports enhancements to and increases in state funding where warranted for efforts to bring good-paying jobs to the area.

During his term, Schexnayder said he helped secure $40 million from the WISE Fund for the technical colleges in the district while fighting for the passage of Act 329, which allows input into academic standards.

Schexnayder attended school in St. Amant and graduated from French Settlement High School. He is also a graduate of Allen Institute of Atlanta, earning certification in Automotive Service Excellence.

Since 1998, Schex-nayder has owned and operated Car Craft Automotive in Sorrento. Schexnayder and his wife Phoebe Keller Schexnayder have four children, one daughter-in-law, one son-in-law and four grandsons. They are members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in French Settlement and Pine Grove Baptist Church in Bayou Barbary.
