WSJ, Donaldsonville look to get offenses rolling

EDGARD – West St. John, coming off its best offensive performance of theseason, will look to keep up the momentum against Donald-sonville Friday night.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at West St. John Stadium.West St. John enters the game with a 1-2 record. Donaldsonville, amember of District 10-3A, is 1-2.

The Rams got their offense going against White Castle Friday night, rolling to 304 yards in a 34-15 victory. Jamar Bailey ran for threetouchdowns and 118 yards as the Rams gained 211 yards on the ground.

The Rams were without top gainer Dehaven Dursonslet who will alos miss this week’s game with an injury. Quarterback Carl Gauthier completed fivepasses for 67 yards and connected with Torrian Thomas on a 5-yard score.

The defense limited White Castle to 35 yards in total offense. The Ramsrecovered two fumbles and did not allow the Bulldogs to complete a pass, intercepting one. The Bulldogs’ lone scores came on a fumble return and a5-yard run.

Donaldsonville defeated Parkview Baptist last Friday, 27-3. The Tigersgained 319 yards, including 118 yards passing by Terrance Brown who completed 7 of his 14 passes. Brown completed touchdown passes to MattDeville and Todd Garnett. Michael Lyman rushed for 85 yards and a score. The defense did its job, forcing three fumbles and returning an interception for a score. Parkview, ranked 19th in Class 3A, completedonly two of its 12 passes for 25 yards while rushing for 130 yards.

Brown is one of the leading passers in the state, passing for 419 yards and five touchdowns on 27 completions in 50 attempts. His best game of theseason came against Assumption in week one when he completed 14 of his 20 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Garnett has over 250 yardsand three touchdowns receiving, including a nine-reception, 193-yard day against Assumption.

This is supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Tigers after a 2-8 season in 1997. Donaldsonville is replacing seven defensive starters, includingdefensive lineman Howard Green and linebacker Austin Murphy. Seniorlinebacker Andrew Jones leads the defense. Brown is in his first season atquarterback and will be running the offense behind a line led by senior tackle Dontrell Joseph.

The last two meetings between the teams have ended in shutouts. Donald-sonville blanked West St. John in 1996 with the Rams getting theirrevenge last season, 19-0.

In that game, West St. John held the Tigers to 80 total yards. AdairAlexander ran for a touchdown and connected with Brian Lumar on another.

Joseph Gross added a field goal in the victory.

West St. John travels to Port Sulphur next Friday while Donaldsonvillehosts Booker T. Washington.
