Michel: God can clear obstacles for our destinations

My heart is often drawn towards Thibodaux, where my two youngest daughters share a house.

Elise, a graduate of Nicholls State, works for Easter Seals, and Victoria is in her second year of college pursuing a degree in literature. I occasionally make the trip to visit, feed and/or shop with them.

An aerial map would show that the route would have me go through cane fields, cross a river, travel through more cane fields, then continue along and over bayous until I reach my girls.

The frontierswoman that I’m not would be discouraged from such a journey despite my love for Elise and Victoria. Thankfully, years ago, people went before me.

They cleared woods and swamps to build roads and constructed bridges that span waterways. Their work prepared the way and makes it easy for me to get from where I am to where I want to be —with my girls.

But Thibodaux is not always my destination.

There are other places I want to go that have nothing to do with traveling.

There are things I desire relationally, emotionally and spiritually, and I trust that God will take me there.

Maybe you can relate. Although our prayer lists and the desires of our hearts are as varied as we are, I believe that God is able to do exceedingly, immeasurably above all we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). He not only can take us to that place, but He has made a way for us to get there.

In Deuteronomy 1:30-33, the Israelites were told that God would go before them, fight for them and lead them in the way they should go. I believe He will do the same for us, His children whom He loves.

To begin with He offers salvation — the freedom from sin — through the sacrifice of Jesus, His Son who said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

For every need, there is a promise from the Bible. Search it and find the one you need.

Ask God to clear the obstacles and show you how to get from where you are to where you want to be.
