LAPLACE — From enforcing curfew to riding through the streets to let children in quarantine get Easter Bunny pictures, the St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office has been active in the community throughout the COVID-19 response.

Early on in the Stay at Home order, detectives arrested two men linked to the vicious homicide of a 25-year-old LaPlace woman.

 

As police have worked diligently to serve the public, community members have found ways to show their appreciation. Revonda Kirby, center, of Third Wave Volunteers recently partnered with CloudGavel for the generous donation of 500 masks to help keep officers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Third Wave Volunteers is a group set up to mobilize medical and non-medical volunteers, aid and general resilience after natural and man-made disasters. CloudGavel is a web-based electronic warrant system.

EMS workers with Acadian Ambulance have also been integral to the COVID-19 response, working around the clock to respond to an influx of medical calls. This year, the Louisiana Bureau of EMS is spearheading a White Ribbon Campaign to show support for EMS professionals.
