NEW ORLEANS — Baylor basketball star Jared Butler, a 2018 Riverside Academy graduate and standout athlete, was named the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month.

The Greater New Orleans Sports Awards Committee chose him for the honor. The Committee is sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Butler is the leading scorer for the Baylor Bears, a team that has claimed the No. 1 spot in national rankings. January was a monster month for Butler, as he helped the Bears win all eight of their games, including a historic win over Kansas State.

Butler was selected for the honor over three talented basketball players and LSU football standout Justin Jefferson.

Jefferson, a Destrehan alum, caught nine passes for 106 yards during LSU’s National Championship victory over Clemson.
