RESERVE – East St. John looked to get back on track after a tough loss to Hahnville in Week 5 of the football season. The Wildcats got a break from district play to host Helen Cox on Friday night. East St. John had no problem as they dominated the game on both sides of the ball for a 49 – 0 victory.

The Wildcats struck first with a 10-yard touchdown run by Calvin Gardner for the 7-0 lead. The East St. John special teams got in on the action by blocking a punt to gain possession on the Cox 1-yard line.  A Sean Shelby quarterback sneak extended the lead to 14-0 in the first quarter.

The football game faced a lengthy delay later in the first quarter because of lightning, and a decision was made to resume the game on Saturday.

When play resumed, East St. John added a score to bring a 21-0 lead into halftime. Sean Shelby added to the score with a pair of touchdown strikes to Dontae Fleming. The East St. John offense used a balanced attack with the run and the pass to find success against Helen Cox. Rydell Jackson had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown to make the final score 49-0.  East St. John will travel to Destrehan Friday for a huge district showdown.
