Riverside Academy

RESERVE – After two hard-fought road losses, the Riverside Rebels were relieved to finally take the field in a home game on Friday night.  The Rebels played in a hard-fought thriller but came up short in the end of the score with a 39-38 loss.

The Woodlawn-B.R. Panthers were the first to score early in the first quarter, but Riverside quickly answered when freshman Cade Middleton returned the kickoff for a touchdown to tie the score 6-6. Woodlawn came right back with two scores in the first half to take the lead 20-6.

Riverside would score again on a 6-yard run by Larvadain and add a two-point conversion to make it 20-14 with 6:28 left in the second quarter and Gage Larvadain would score again on a 47-yard touchdown run and added n Emmanuel Franklin rush for a two-point conversion to take the lead 22-20.

The score-fest continued as Cade Middleton would score on a pick 6 for his second touchdown of the game while Riverside added a Larvadain rush for a two-point conversion for the 30-20 lead in the second quarter. The Rebel defense stopped the Panther offense, and Riverside kept their foot on the gas with another 6-yard touchdown run by Larvadain and with a successful two-point conversion to make the score 38 – 20 at halftime.

The Panthers battled back in the second half with a 21-yard touchdown run by Caleb Morgan to narrow the lead to 38-27.  Woodlawn drew closer on a Rickie Collins 22-yard pass to Jaylon Henry for a touchdown to make the score 38-33. The Panthers took the lead on a 34-yard touchdown pass to put the game away late in the fourth quarter with the 39-38 come from behind win.

Riverside will be on the road next week to play Catholic of Pointe Coupee.

East St. John

NEW ORLEANS – After a disappointing Week 2 loss to St. James, the East St. John Wildcats traveled to face Sophie B. Wright in Week 3. East St. John bounced back in a big way with a 57 to 9 victory over the Warriors on Friday.

The Wildcats struck first with a 42-yard Sean Shelby pass to Dontae Fleming for a touchdown. Shelby followed that up with a 46-yard touchdown strike to Rydell Jackson for the early 14-0 lead.

The Defense also joined in the scoring on a scoop and score by safety Shaun Sterling to make the score 21-0. Shelby added two more touchdown passes in the first half with a 25-yard pass to senior wide receiver Markel August and another touchdown to wide receiver Fleming to bring the score to 35-7 at halftime.

The Wildcat offense continued to dominate in the second half with another Shelby to August 31-yard score for the 42-7 lead and a Shelby to Fleming 35-yard touchdown to make it 49 – 9.

The final score came when East St. John quarterback Sean Shelby tossed his seventh touchdown pass of the game on a 16-yard dart to Dontae Fleming to make the final score 57–9.

East St John (2-1) will  open district play at home next week against H.L Bourgeois.
