Brief: 10 years for area man

CONVENT — A Gramercy man was sentenced to more than a decade in jail this month.

According to Tyler Cavalier of District Attorney Ricky L. Babin’s office, 33-year-old John Walters pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was sentenced to 13 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

Walters, given credit for time served, will serve his prison term without the benefit of parole.
