LAPLACE — St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre recently presented Jared Hymel with the 2017-18 academic scholarship from the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program.

A 2018 graduate of Riverside Academy, Hymel plans to attend the University of New Orleans to study finance.

He is the son of Robert Jr. and Allison Hymel of LaPlace.

Hymel will receive $500 for educational expenses. The Louisiana Sheriffs’ Educational Scholarship Program awards $500 to graduating high school students in parishes where the sheriffs are members of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program.
