BATON ROUGE, La. – La Capitol Federal Credit Union will sponsor BREC’s Rockin’ at the Swamp Saturday, March 11, 2023, and fuse the lessons of fossils and finance for children attending the popular annual event.

BREC uses the Bluebonnet Swamp as the backdrop of a journey into the exciting world of rocks, minerals, gemstones, and fossils. Participants can add to their rock collection or find some unique gift items at BREC’s Rockhound Market.

The event website says activities include rock wall climbing, rock and mineral identification, and a real gold rush completed with an iron pyrite hunt in the Gold Mine. “Try out some rockin’ crafts or paint your own Rock Animal in our craft corner,” the site says. “Explore ancient life forms in the Fossil Quarry.”

La Cap will provide a path to the Treasure Trail where participants will get a blank card and find the gemstones needed to make it complete.

Finding a different type of treasure through saving will be another focus of La Cap’s center.  Families can stop by and visit with Kenna Green from our Siegen Lane location and ask questions about our Youth Savings accounts.

Teaching kids to save money starts in the home, and La Cap supports families teaching their children how to save by adding $25 to the Youth Savings account when the account is opened with a starting deposit of $251. Visit https://www.lacapfcu.org/youth-savings to get started. La Cap also will give away coloring books about credit unions, crayons, and inflatable mini beach balls while supplies last.

The event starts at 9 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. This is one rockin’ day of fun highlighting geology and earth science. Tickets are $4 for ages 3-17 and $5 for ages 17 and older. Pass discounts are available.

Visit BREC for tickets, directions and more information.
