SCC returning to the Dome to defend state championship title

LAPLACE — The St. Charles Catholic Comets have a chance to make history with back-to-back championship titles as they prepare to face Dunham in the 2022 LHSAA Prep Football Classic Friday, December 9 at the Ceasar Superdome in New Orleans.

St. Charles Catholic is ranked second in the select Division III, while Dunham is ranked fourth. The championship kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m.

Destrehan and Lutcher will also represent the River Parishes at the Superdome in the LHSAA Prep Football Classic. Destrehan, the No. 3 seed in Non-Select Division I, is vying for a championship title against top-ranked Ruston on Friday, December 9. On Saturday, December 10, No. 6 Lutcher will take on No. 4 DeSoto in Non-Select Division II.

St. Charles Catholic is coming off of a 17-10 win against Notre Dame Friday night.

The Comets drew first blood on a 31-yard touchdown run from Ayden Authement, ending the first quarter 7-0. Late in the second quarter, Notre Dame reached the scoreboard on a field goal. Before the clock ran down to halftime, Authement connected with Davon Stirgus on a 40-yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-3.

The Comets remained on top in the third quarter with a field goal from Tyler Milioto. The Pios fought back with a touchdown in the fourth quarter but could not catch the Comets. The game ended 17-10 with St. Charles Catholic on top.
