Louisiana State Police Investigate Deputy Involved Shooting in West Baton Rouge Parish

Port Allen – On November 20, 2022, shortly after 12:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations were requested by the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate the fatal attack of a Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development (DOTD) employee and subsequent deputy involved shooting. The incident resulted in the deaths of the DOTD worker and the suspect.
The initial investigation revealed that deputies were dispatched to Interstate 10 westbound west of LA 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The emergency call was in reference to an individual attacking a DOTD Motorist Assistance Patrol (MAP) unit employee. Upon arrival, deputies encountered the suspect actively attacking the MAP unit employee. Responding deputies engaged the suspect with gunfire, ultimately stopping the threat. The MAP unit employee and suspect were both transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased shortly after their arrival.
Louisiana State Police is the lead investigating agency. The incident scene was processed by Louisiana State Police Crime Lab Technicians. The investigation remains ongoing with further information to be released in coordination with the West Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office at the appropriate time.
