|An ‘eye popping’ record
The fictional Barney Google may have “goo-goo-goo-ga-ly eyes” in the song that made its debut in 1923. But the Association of Mature American Citizens [AMAC] reports that the Guinness Book of World Records says Sidney de Carvalho Mesquita, who hails from Brazil, has real life googly eyes that he can pop out of their sockets at will. He can make his peepers protrude nearly three quarters of an inch.
Better late than never
Dubliner Shane Gaffney was visiting New York City. It was about 4:00 AM and he hailed a taxi cab. John McDonagh, an Irish American, was at the wheel, according to the Association of Mature American Citizens [AMAC]. Gaffney didn’t have enough money for his fare and so he gave McDonagh an IOU, promising two pints of Guinness at his parents’ pub if and when the taxi driver might visit Ireland. It all happened in 2013. But nine years later McDonagh showed up at the pub to claim his brews. Gaffney and his mom and dad were waiting for him as were reporters and regulars. And behind the bar was a “massive banner welcoming me,” said McDonagh.
Hit and run
Zack Piller and his dad were fishing for bass and tuna off the coast of New Jersey when suddenly a massive whale breached the waters in front of them, says the Association of Mature American Citizens [AMAC]. Zack didn’t panic; he reached for his cell phone and taped the encounter. Oh yeah, as the behemoth crashed back into the water it tapped their boat. It was a near miss but the whale did, in fact, tap their boat. No harm. But they have one heck of a fish story to tell for a long time to come.
