NEW ORLEANS — The Belle Terre Piranha Swim Team had two record-breaking relay performances during the 2021 Meet of Champs, held July 20 at the UNO Aquatic Center in New Orleans.

Christopher Hammett, 17, Stephen Mixon, 16, Jacob Robinson, 16, and Calix Hammett, 15, broke the previous record for the Boys 15-18 200 Freestyle Relay set by Woodlake in 2005. The previous record as 1:31.61, and the Piranhas finished with a time of 1:31.22.

Calix Hammett, 15, Alexandra Rutledge, 14, Juliana Portillo, 16, and Christopher Hammett, 17, broke the previous record for the Mixed 15-18 200 Freestyle Relay set by Lakeside in 2017. The previous record was 1:40.69, and the Piranhas finished with a time of 1:39.96.

The Piranhas are led by coaches Jason Harris and Melynie Wright. Several members of the swim team placed in the top 10 of their respective events.
