1976 – Reverend and Mrs. J. J. Harper reaffirmed their wedding vows after 50 years of marriage. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Wesley Anderson, in the True Light Baptist Church, Garyville. A Golden Anniversary reception followed in the Sixth Ward Elementary School, and was attended by members of the family and a host of friends. The couple has six children and one deceased. They also have 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Reverend Harper is retired from Godchaux Sugars, Reserve and is presently active in the ministry as pastor of Greater New St. Peter Baptist Church in Edgard.
