Last week, Stephen Clark of 11113 Hummingbird Lane Denham Springs, LA., age 29, pled guilty to Conspiracy to Commit 1st Degree Robbery. Clark was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Leila Braswell, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a 2018 robbery.

On October 18, 2018, deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a Prairieville food mart after multiple 911 calls mere placed regarding shots being fired on the premises. Upon arrival, deputies identified the vehicles driven by the parties involved. Witnesses provided detectives with a license plate for one of the vehicles which fled the scene. Detectives made contact with the owner of the vehicle who advised that he was in fact the victim of a robbery at the food mart. The victim told detectives that a male subject who he only knew as Stephen offered to purchase a cell phone from the victim. Both subjects agreed to meet at the food mart. The victim advised that Stephen entered his vehicle and began digging in his pockets for money but did not have enough to pay for the phone. Stephen then retrieved a handgun and struck the victim in the head. Stephen ordered the victim to give him everything he had before firing the gun inside of the vehicle striking the steering column. A brief struggle over the gun ensued before the victim was able to begin driving away. Stephen took the phone then exited the vehicle. Both subjects then fled the area. During a search of the victim’s vehicle, detectives located a wallet containing a Louisiana ID card for Stephen Clark. Detectives were able to positively identify Clark as the suspect in this incident. Stephen Clark was apprehended and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Clark was sentenced to 15 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
