1989 – Clarence Triche, owner/president of Triche’s Marine in LaPlace and District 11 St. John the Baptist Parish School Board member serves hot, boiled crawfish to St. John Parish teachers and their escorts. Triche was among several other business and industry leaders in the parish serving as cooks and hosts for the first St. John the Baptist Teacher Appreciation crawfish boil held at East St. John High School in Reserve. John Crose, vice president of Citizens for Excellence in Education, said the crawfish boil was given to show appreciation for teachers in the parish and help the business people become more involved with education. “We want to show teachers how much they are appreciated without any political stigma attached, ” Crose said. More than 150 teachers and their escorts attended the 1,200 pound crawfish boil.
