Today is National Cream Cheese Brownie Day

 

Philadelphia Marble Brownies

 

1 pkg. (18 to 20 oz.) brownie mix (13×9-inch pan size)

1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened

1/3 cup sugar

1 egg

1/2 tsp. vanilla

 

Heat oven to 350ºF.

Prepare brownie batter as directed on package; pour into 13×9-inch pan sprayed with cooking spray.

Beat cream cheese in large bowl with mixer until creamy. Add sugar, egg and vanilla; mix well. Drop by tablespoonfuls over brownie batter; swirl gently with knife.

Bake 35 to 40 min. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out with fudgy crumbs. (Do not overbake.) Cool completely.

Today in History: In 1986, began the largest Mafia trial in history, the Maxi Trial, with 474 defendants, opened in Palermo, Sicily. The trial lasted for 5 years. From February 10^th 1986 to January 30^th 1992. Most were convicted, 338 people, sentenced to a total of 2,665 years, not including the life sentences handed to 19 bosses.

 

Fun Fact: The Maxi Trail is considered to be the most significant trial ever against the Sicilian Mafia. Throughout and after the trial several judges and magistrates were killed by the Mafia, including the people who led it, Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino.
