LAPLACE —St. John the Baptist Parish Deputy Claudia Weston manages weekly visits between officers and more than 170 homebound seniors to promote the safety and health for some of the most treasured members of the community.

The St. John Parish Business Association named Weston, director of the Protecting Our Precious Seniors (POPS) program, Officer of the Month at the group’s June meeting at Petra Restaurant & Lounge in LaPlace.

Weston was honored for her exceptional work and dedication to enhance the program after the retirement and transfer of POPS administrators.

POPS is a free service provided by the SJSO to assist in the well-being of homebound elderly residents.

Patrol Commander Captain Paul Swancey said Weston has been integral to the program.
“Deputy Weston eagerly came in, (to POPS), and not only did she put forth her best effort, she put her heart and mind into it,” Swancey said. “She … helped to bring a high level of efficiency to the program.”
