St. John the Baptist Parish Library System is hosting its Summer Reading Program June 1 through July 31. This year’s theme is “Universe of Stories.”

A talented group of performers will be performing at all four branches of the library system. The library system will also have activities throughout the month of June for children, teens and adults associated with the summer reading program’s theme.

Performers for June will include Mad Science of South Louisiana, Lady Chops, David Sepulveda and the Kabuki Dancers.

Mad Science of South Louisiana is a leading science enrichment provider for children in kindergarten through grade six. Their mission is to spark imaginative learning in every child connected to their program. Please join us to learn some STEAM subjects and enjoy experiments as well.

The Norris J. Millet Sr. Library (Central) will host them at 11 a.m. June 3, and the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library (Reserve) will host them on the same day at 2 p.m.

The Roland Borne Sr. Memorial Library (Edgard) will host them at 10 a.m. June 4, and the Frazee-Harris Memorial Library (Garyville) will host them on the same day at 2 p.m.

Elizabeth Vidos, also known as “Lady Chops,” is bringing her one woman drumming show to the library. She is a talented percussionist whose past work includes performing in the hit show “STOMP.” Her program, “Drum Roll Please,” is energetic, interactive and fun for all ages as she incorporates more than 15 instruments, including buckets, body percussion and the Cajun rubboard.

She will perform at 10 a.m. June 10 at the Norris J. Millet, Sr. Library and at the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library on the same day at 2 p.m. She will also perform at 11 a.m. June 14 at the Frazee-Harris Memorial Library and at the Roland Borne Sr. Memorial Library on the same day at 2 p.m.

David Sepulveda is bringing his line dance class to St. John the Baptist Parish Library. Patrons of all ages are invited out to learn some new dance moves and break a sweat while doing so. Please join the Line Dance King for this awesome event at 7 p.m. June 11 at the Norris J. Millet Sr. Library.

The Kabuki Dancers are a group of performing artists dedicated to the improvement of the community through art. Soul stirring spoken word, energized drumming/beats, rhythm, movement, b-boy and beyond; they’ve got it all.

Please join us as they bring it all together in a one-of-a-kind performance that is electrifying and personal.

They will be performing at 10 a.m. June 19 at the Roland Borne Sr. Memorial Library and at the Frazee-Harris Memorial Library at 2 p.m. June 20.

There will be a multitude of other programs hosted at each library branch throughout the month. For a full list of all programs, please refer to our online calendar on our website (stjohn.lib.la.us), Facebook (St. John the Baptist Parish Library) or pick up a newsletter at any of our branches.
