LAPLACE — A fight between teenagers over tennis shoes led to gunshots and an armed robbery arrest, police said.

The altercation led to a 15-year-old LaPlace male’s arrest for illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and armed robbery with a firearm.

The suspect is being held in custody in the Sherman Walker facility.

St. John Sheriff’s Office deputies learned of the altercation when responding to the 1800 block of Lee Drive in LaPlace at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A 17-year-old male told police he was meeting with the 15-year-old to purchase Nike Air Force One tennis shoes after speaking on the phone and via social media about the sale.

Police said the suspect arrived at the victim’s home, and they began discussing the purchase.

“When the victim showed the shoes he was selling to the juvenile, the juvenile produced a gun and attempted to steal the shoes,” a Sheriff’s Office release said. “The victim and the juvenile then started fighting over the gun, at which time, the gun went off twice.”

No one was injured by the gunshots, and police said the victim and suspect sustained minor injuries to their legs and hands as a result of the fight.
