Keller: Veterans memorial in Reserve needs community support

As I was having coffee at PJ’s Monday, my friend, Mr. Benny Robichaux, walked in smiling and excited about life at age 91.

He is a perfect example that if you are involved in a purposeful project, you don’t have time to focus on dying.

Benny, an Army veteran of World War II, is an active member of the American Legion Post #383.

He is one of the leaders a campaign to build a Veterans Memorial to be placed in front of the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home on the Airline Highway in Reserve.

Mr. Allan Reynaud, commander, and all the Legion members would like us to remember the veterans’ message, which is, “All Gave Some and Some Gave All.”

To raise money, everyone will have an opportunity to own a piece of the project by buying a personalized brick.

A committee has been formed to solicit donations from businesses, industry and individuals to raise the necessary money.

Their motto is, “We will have the money in the bank before the shovel is in the ground.”

Needless to say, this is an ambitious undertaking that will take the cooperation and support of many.
