YOUR trash is welcome at Saturday’s Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day

LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish will participate in the 20th annual Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day this Saturday (April 7) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the New Wine Ministries parking lot, 1921 W. Airline Highway in LaPlace.
Household materials to be accepted and properly disposed or recycled are: oil-based paint, latex paint, solvents, tires (limit five per vehicle and one delivery only), automotive and other rechargeable batteries, household cleaning products, acids/bases, used oil, antifreeze, aerosol cans, fluorescent lamps, pesticides, herbicides, scrap metal, major appliances, used computers and electronics.
Items that will NOT be accepted include explosives, ammunition, medical wastes, unidentifiable materials, compressed gas cylinders and radioactive wastes.
The event is sponsored by local industry as a community service and for the disposal of residential hazardous wastes only. Please do not bring wastes from commercial or government facilities. OnApril 21, clean-up efforts will continue during the annual Spring Clean Sweep which will consist of a parish wide clean-up day involving many government agencies, neighborhood associations, civic groups, schools, and churches.
The spring event will kick off at 8:30 a.m. at the Thomas F. Daley Memorial (Highway 51) Park with distribution of supplies and end with free food and music for volunteers around 11:30 am.
Groups and individuals wanting to participate and volunteer are asked to sign up in advance at sjbparish.com or contact Terri Abadie at the Parish office at 985-652-9569. Groups needing service hours are encouraged to participate.
