Portions of I-55 reopened after massive pileup, repairs underway

Following the fatal car pileup Monday morning, sections of Interstate 55 reopened on Tuesday.

I-55 is currently closed from Ponchatoula to the Ruddock exit.

For Northbound traffic, there’s an option to use the elevated section of I-55 up to the Ruddock exit, from where vehicles will be redirected to the lower road.

Southbound traffic, on the other hand, will be directed to the lower road at the Ruddock entrance ramp, where you can access the elevated part of I-55.

Repairs for I-55 necessitated by the accidents that occurred yesterday will be more extensive than initially anticipated.

The southbound deck of I-55 has sustained damage, requiring an X-ray examination.

Segments of the roadway have chunks missing, with some sections having up to a 2-inch gap.
