Poché: Libraries open up opportunities to St. John in March

March will be an exciting time at St. John the Baptist Parish Libraries.
In honor of Women’s History Month, daughters and their mothers are invited to participate in “I Am: A Project for Girls” at the Reserve Library at 2 p.m. March 10. The objective of this program is for mothers and daughters to interact and learn more about each other in the process. Please call the Reserve Library at 985-536-4107 for more information.
A hall of fame presentation and discussion will be done on Harriet Tubman at the Garyville Library at 5 p.m. March 12, showcasing her as an American Hero, Abolitionist, Underground Railroad Conductor, Army Nurse and Spy.
The Central Library will host “Redefine Your Life Goals” at 5 p.m. March 22. Women of the community are invited to make vision boards, which represent specific things that they would like to attract to their lives.
On March 26 at 6 p.m., the Reserve Library will host, “Michelle Obama, Then and Now.” A discussion of her early years as a young girl in Chicago to her later years as our first African American First Lady will be done.
All of the libraries are celebrating the Easter holiday. Adult patrons are invited to the Edgard Library on March 21 at 5:30 p.m. can create Easter Egg Mason Jars. Simply Paint will be held at the Garyville Library at 5 p.m. March 26. Children, ages 6 and older are invited to paint an image related to the holiday.
The Central Library will have an Easter Egg Hunt following their Storytime March 29 at 10:30 a.m. The Edgard Library will host an Easter Egg Hunt at 4 p.m. March 29. Children, ages 3 and up, are welcome to participate. The Reserve Library will also host an Easter Egg Hunt at 5:30 p.m. March 29. Children, ages 3 and up, will make Easter baskets before starting the hunt.
The Reserve Library will have a Lego challenge for children, ages 5 and up, March 3 at 9 a.m. Patrons will be challenged to create items listed on their challenge cards. Creations will then be displayed at the branch. The challenge will be held the entire day.
The library will continue its Beginner’s Walking Program every Thursday at 10 a.m. Studies confirm that walking benefits moods by releasing natural endorphins, so join the Reserve Library for 30 minutes of walking to reduce stress and increase your self-esteem.
The Wee Readers’ Book Club will be held March 7 and 14 at 4 p.m. and on March 21 and 28 at 10:30 a.m. This story time program invites children, ages 2 to 6, to listen to awesome stories and enjoy an activity associated with them. For more information, call the Reserve Library at (985) 536-4107.
The Garyville Library will host Pajama Evening Storytime March 1, 15 and 29 at 5 p.m. Children, ages 5 and older are invited to come in their favorite pajamas to listen to bedtime stories. For more information, call the Garyville Library at (985) 535-6868.
Computer classes will be held at the Edgard Library for adults on Mondays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. Novice computer users who want to improve their skills are invited to take this 30-minute class and immerse themselves in the knowledge of communication. Tweens and teens are welcome to attend Game Time, every Thursday in March at 3:30 p.m. To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, children ages 6 and older, will make Craft Stick Leprechaun Hats March 15 at 1:30 p.m. Please contact Carlos Diaz, branch supervisor, at 985-497-3453 for more information.
