Shumaker: Reserve college work transfers to Louisiana’s four-year colleges

With the beginning of Summer Semester May 29, 2018, the Reserve Campus will be offering a Louisiana Transfer Degree.
What this will mean to our communities is that students can take their first two years of college courses and they will transfer to the four-year Louisiana universities. This will offer the students the opportunity to stay close to home. Plus, the savings in tuition will be significant.
Freshman year is such a time of change that this new opportunity will give students a chance to ease their way into their college journey.
Transfer degrees are available in numerous fields, such as General Education, Business, Criminal Justice, Humanities, Social Sciences and Physical Sciences.
Another new program being offered at Reserve will be an Associate of Science in Teaching (Grades 1-5).
All of the current technical programs offered at Reserve will continue with one new addition. Beginning this Summer an Electrical Program will now be offered on a full time basis.
During this Summer you will begin to see the actual transformation of the South Central Louisiana Technical College, Reserve Campus as it becomes River Parishes Community College, Reserve Campus.
There are plans for changing the signs and there will soon be beautiful landscaping to accentuate the new building.
Additional parking is being considered as well as more amenities for students. There are also plans for upgrades to the main campus.
These upgrades will bring the look of the main campus more in line to the 21st century design of the new building. It will also be a more comfortable and engaging learning space for the students.
There is a lot going on in Reserve and we are always open for potential students to tour the facility to see what we have to offer.
To set up a tour simply call or email Randy Vicknair 985-536-4418 or rvicknair@rpcc.edu.
