LaPlace man killed in Airline Highway hit & run

LAPLACE — A 32-year-old LaPlace man was killed Saturday night, the victim of a hit and run collision on Airline Highway, authorities said.
Louisiana State Police said the wreck occurred at approximately 6 p.m. at the intersection of Airline Highway and Jaubert Lane in LaPlace, adding the public’s help is needed with the investigation.
According to a report from Troop B, the pedestrian killed was Eugene Webber III.
“Preliminary investigation revealed Webber was walking across the left lane of northbound Airline Highway when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that was traveling in the northbound left lane,” a State Police release said. “Webber died on the scene. At this time, it is unknown if impairment and/or speed were factors and the investigation is on-going.”
Troopers said they are interviewing witnesses and attempting to identify the vehicle involved. Anyone with information related to the crash, the vehicle or who was driving, is asked to contact Louisiana State Police Troop B at 504-471-2775.
