LAPLACE — An unknown number of suspects is being sought in the gunpoint kidnapping of a LaPlace man early Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

Details are sketchy at this point, but police said a victim in the 300 block of South Pass Street in LaPlace told authorities gunmen entered his home at approximately 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.

The victim told police he was taken from the home at gunpoint and made to drive his vehicle to an unknown location. The victim said he jumped from the moving vehicle and was able to run from the area and seek assistance, adding the suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle, heading back toward his residence.

The victim flagged down a responding St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy, providing a description of his vehicle. According to the Sheriff’s Office, responding officers encountered the suspects in the victim’s stolen vehicle.

“The suspects then led officers on a brief vehicle pursuit in the area of the Canterbury Subdivision before … abandoning the vehicle and fled on foot,” a Sheriff’s Office release said. “Detectives are investigating this incident and believe this was an isolated incident, and that the victim knew the suspects.”

The number of suspects and descriptive information on the gunmen was not immediately available.
