Teenager shot; another arrested for attempted murder in LaPlace assault

LAPLACE — One teenager is in the hospital and another is facing an attempted murder charge following a violent Monday morning encounter in LaPlace, authorities said.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at approximately 7:20 a.m. Monday in reference to a subject shot outside of a residence in the 1500 block of Grant Drive in LaPlace.
Officers and emergency personnel arrived on scene and located a 15-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The juvenile was taken to an area hospital, police said, where he remains in stable condition.
A 14-year-old male juvenile was arrested for attempted second degree murder in relation to the shooting, which Sheriff Mike Tregre said involved a stolen firearm.
The arrested juvenile is also facing charges related to several residential and vehicle burglaries in the area, police said.
Detectives are asking anyone who may have been a victim to a residential or vehicle burglary recently who did not report it, to contact the St. John Sheriff’s Office.
