Michel: Spiritual attire fits any occasion

Years ago, I owned a pretty emerald-green dress. At a time in my life when I had more children and responsibilities than money and opportunities to shop, it was my default dress for special occasions.

I didn’t realize how much my children paid attention to my wardrobe until I put it on one day and my daughter Lauren asked, “Who’s getting married?”

The same child crossed my path in the hallway one day, looked at the basic black dress I had on, and asked, “Who died?”

I was, in fact, on my way to a funeral. I guess I’m pretty easy to read. Other outfits also indicate where I’m going, or where I’ve been.

Based on what I’m wearing, it’s not difficult to know whether I’m going to church, the pool or the gym.

I don’t mind if my wardrobe changes according to my schedule, as long as I daily wear what Ephesians 6:13-16 refers to as the armor of God.

“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Wherever I’m going, or whatever I’m doing, my spiritual attire should never vary.
