Keller: U.S. can only prosper as a united nation

Wednesday morning my daughter, Ronny, called and said, “Daddy, turn on the TV.  Congressman Steve Scalise was shot!”

I followed the senseless act as it was described by the media all day.

My thoughts were, “What is our country coming to?”

I then recalled what the Bible says in Genesis 50: 20, when Joseph reminded his brothers of the evil they committed years earlier as they attempted to kill him.

“But as for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good. In order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people.”

What exactly did we learn from this evil act?

It definitely told the world that we are a nation divided by hatred for other people’s beliefs. It was obvious that it is possible for one man to make a difference and leave a mark in our history, regardless if it was meant for destruction.

With all the negative things to be said, we also showed the world what America can be like if we decide to be united. It should make all people realize that our police are to be respected for protecting our lives.

Without the heroic actions of the two Capitol police officers, many lives could have been lost.

These two officers, in spite of sustaining gunshot wounds, weren’t looking to be heroes. They just automatically did what they were trained to do. I pray that what the devil meant for destruction, God will allow us to use for the good of our nation’s future.

As a divided America, we will not continue to be the most blessed country God ever created.

It’s time to realize that divided we will fall and only in unity we will continue to prosper.
