LAPLACE — The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office recently honored Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School and St. Joan of Arc Catholic School students who graduated from the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program during a recent ceremony at the school.

Sheriff’s Office personnel instructed the fifth graders in the school-based drug awareness and prevention program that has evolved to teach students about drug awareness and prevention while guiding students in decision-making for safe and healthy living.

The 10-week lessons, offered locally to fifth graders in elementary schools, address drugs, violence, bullying, internet safety and other high-risk circumstances students typically face in their lives.
