Keller: Plenty to get excited about with football

What a great weekend for football fans in the River Parishes!

LSU fans have a football coach, Ed Orgeron. The new coach is happy as he said, “It’s a dream come true” and continued, “it’s bigger than life.” (I’m still trying to figure that one out.)

The Saints won and the fans are now talking playoffs.

Locally, Destrehan continues to win in their quest for a State Championship.

Good luck Coach Robichaux! You are a class act.

The Lutcher Bulldogs, under first year coach, Dwain Jenkins, are still in the hunt for their second consecutive State Championship and the school’s eighth overall.

In St. John Parish, with Riverside beating Catholic of New Iberia and St. Charles upsetting Notre Dame of Crowley, it set the stage for a Rebels vs. Comets game, Friday afternoon at 1:30 in the Superdome.

The two teams from the same district met during the regular season and Riverside won.

The players on both teams are excited to be playing in the Dome, and rightfully so.

Regardless of the outcome, the players will enjoy the experience, shake hands after the game and sleep well that night.

Let’s hope the coaches and fans will do the same and consider that it’s only a game.
