LAPLACE — The National Association of Secondary School Principals granted a charter to St. Charles Catholic High School in 2006 and since SCC’s chapter of the National Honor Society recognizes students who meet standards in scholarship, leadership, service and character.
Just recently, SCC’s Honor Society members teamed with Riverside Academy’s Beta Club to collect canned goods for the parish’s needy. Club President Mallory Brignac designed this year’s T-shirts, which include the Bible verse: “Serve one another humbly in love” – Galatians 5:13.
Past service projects have included working with Habitat for Humanity and assisting with Bingo at Place du Bourg.
Students who have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA (with no Cs) for two consecutive nine weeks periods are eligible to apply for membership.
The student information form and faculty evaluations are looked over by a Faculty Council, who select students for membership into the chapter.
Although one’s GPA is a large factor in a student being admitted into NHS, service and leadership are where the organization truly thrives, school leaders said.
