Freeman: College looking for local instructors
Published 12:01 am Saturday, September 3, 2016
The new addition construction is on schedule to open in December.
Those additional eight classrooms will be a welcomed relief from the filled-to-capacity classrooms in the current semester.
While additional sections of classes will be available in the PTECH program, the additional space will also allow more class space for Industrial Instrumentation classes in the current building. Industrial Instrumentation often referred to E & I (Electrical Instrumentation) is a blossoming program here at the Reserve Campus.
With the growing needs of Industry for Industrial Electricians, we are heeding the call to begin the program here at Reserve. It will be an additional program bringing the total program choice to 11.
With the increase in student population comes the need for additional instructors. Currently, the Reserve Campus is searching for adjuncts to teach instrumentation, electrical and PTECH. Adjuncts are part-time instructors who may teach as few as three hours a week.
The days and times are usually chosen by the instructor to allow for their full time employment obligations. It is a great way to give back to those who will be following in your career footsteps.
It is a perfect past time for those recently retired who would like to share their years of experience.
As the bricks are going up on the new building and the sheetrock is hung, we turn our attention to the many Fall activities coming in the next few weeks.
Friday Sept. 30, we will be hosting our Work Ready U (Formerly GED) graduation. Several of our graduates have begun the next step to their future by enrolling in a program on the Reserve Campus.
Fall Career Fair is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 6. Our graduating seniors and recent grads will have the opportunity to speak with local industry regarding the opportunities available and soon to be available.
Wednesday, Oct. 19 we will be celebrating our annual De’Jeuner Scholarship Luncheon. This year it will be held on campus with a few surprises for the attendees.
Mike Detiller, sportscaster of WWL, will be our guest speaker. This event raises dollars for those students who can use a bit of help to complete their program.
The Scholarship is open to all programs for current students. The cost of lunch for this event is priceless to the students it will serve. I encourage you to contact carinfernandez@scl.edu for more information.
South Central Louisiana Technical College faculty, staff and students are painfully aware of the recent flooding and its effect on the region and its own.
We hope that everyone holds on to the courage to come back even stronger.
At the same time we share in the sorrow of our recent loss, District Fire Chief Spencer Chauvin. We send healing thoughts to his family and our beloved fire department.
