LAPLACE — The National Weather Service lifted the Flood Warning for St. John the Baptist Parish and issued a non-life threatening Flood Advisory Saturday that would remain in effect until 3 p.m. Monday.
The Advisory cautions residents to be mindful as backwater slowly drains from the area.
St. John Parish, especially northwestern portions, remains heavily saturated and ponding of water is occurring on the side of roadways and in ditches and drainage outlets.
Heavy downpours of rainfall are predicted next week. As a result of already saturated grounds, any additional rainfall will quickly runoff and contribute to street flooding and potentially flash flooding in low-lying areas.
Residents should continue monitoring weather, water levels and acquiring sandbags for homes and properties. Hurricane Season is in place until November and sand bags will not go to waste if not used during this time, Parish officials said.
Open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a limit of 25 pre-filled and unlimited if you fill yourself, sand bags are available at Captain G Bourgeois, Railroad Avenue Fire Station, Garyville Fire Station, Wallace Fire Station and Pleasure Bend Fire Station.
Residents can sign up for Parish emergency alerts to your home, cell phone, email and text messaging device by visiting the homepage of the Parish at www.sjbparish.com and clicking on “Stay Connected” or by calling the office at 985-652-9569.
