More than 150 graduates from South Central Louisiana Technical College celebrated their Spring Commencement May 19 at Nicholls State University’s Stopher Gymnasium.

Steve Morgan, a motivational speaker and coordinator of Alumni and Community Relations at the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans, gave the keynote address. Many of these graduates are work ready and have already secured positions at local businesses and industry.

Faculty and staff enjoyed the respite of the celebrations, but are now working in the summer session.

With just a little over one week in between semesters, classes resumed May 31.

The halls and business offices were filled with students registering for summer classes at the Reserve Campus. Department Heads and Lead Faculty advised students and processed the paperwork on which course work they should take for the next eight weeks of study.

Instructors are working lesson plans and schedules for the shortest session of the year.

Students still put in the standard number of clock hours for each course. All classes are doubled for Summer in order to get through all the material necessary. A class that would be taught four hours a week, during the Summer is taught eight hours.

There are no short cuts when it comes to course work. Instructors are diligent to ensure the students learn what they will need on the job. Being “Work-Ready” is one of the many reasons an education at SCL Technical College is so valuable. Our students learn the critical thinking and problem solving skills that make them among the most hirable.

For those who didn’t make the fast paced Summer registration, Fall registration is currently open.

Freshmen are urged to come by the campus this month to have a spot for the upcoming Fall semester, starting Aug. 22. Staff are available to assist with paperwork, financial aid and scheduling.

Students are urged to apply early in order to complete the processing procedures and get early choices for scheduling classes. The more popular classes fill quickly.

For more information go to scl.edu to apply online and get financial aid approval all in one spot.
