ST. ROSE — Authorities said the body of a female discovered Sunday in a St. Rose ditch is that of 16-year-old Jorian White of Kenner.

Major Rodney Madere, chief of investigations for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, said the body was found in a ditch 1.6 miles from Airline Highway.

“It’s mostly swamp right there,” he said. “It’s maybe a quarter mile away from the second set of tracks where the residential area starts.”

According to Madere, White’s body was found in a ditch in a swampy area without clothing and with only thin, pink, rollers in her hair.

The corner’s office confirmed the identification from dental records.

Authorities are currently waiting for the cause of death from the corner’s office.

“At this time everything is still pending from the autopsy,” Madere said.

“We are not releasing anything about trauma or cause of death at this point. The body was taken to the Jefferson Parish Corner’s Office, and they are the ones conducting the examination, which is the autopsy and the follow up.”

Madere said authorities are questioning certain people who may be suspects in the case but are not releasing their names. Other than the people authorities are speaking to, they are not looking for any other suspects at this time.

Madere said St. Charles authorities are working with authorities from the Kenner Police Department.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office first identified White in a release at approximately 1:40 p.m. Monday after first announcing the discovery of the body Sunday evening.

Local authorities said they discovered the body at approximately 4 p.m. Sunday after the teen had been dumped on St. Rose Avenue in a ditch.

White was reported missing from Kenner at approximately 7:45 p.m. Friday. She was last seen in her Kenner home on Phoenix Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

“She was last seen Thursday night by her mother right before (White) went to bed,” Madere said. “(The mother) then left to go to work. By the time the mother returned home Friday, Jorian was already supposed to be in school. The mom just assumed (Jorian) had done her normal routine, woke up and got on the school bus.”

Madere said White would not have returned home from school Friday until late in the evening because the 16-year-old had plans after school.

“When she doesn’t return home late Friday, people started asking where she was,” Madere said. “The family starts calling around. They call the school and find out she wasn’t there that day. The school doesn’t have a policy to call if a student doesn’t show up one time.”

News reports indicate White was attending Bonnabel High School in Kenner.

As of Tuesday morning, Madere said authorities had made no arrests.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help with the ongoing investigation into the death of Jorian White.
