LAPLACE — Annual parades in St. John the Baptist Parish are set to roll this weekend before Mardi Gras.
The Towahpahsah Parade will begin at noon today, and the Krewe Du Monde Parade will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday.
St. John Parish officials have met with representatives from each parade, as well as emergency responders and all agencies who assist with logistics for both parades.
The Towahpahsah and Krewe Du Monde Parades will follow their traditional routes in Reserve and LaPlace. Public bathrooms will be placed on parish servitudes throughout the parade routes for utilization by “parade-goers.”
New to this year, Towahpahsah will have the addition of Saints players in the parade.
Roads are expected to close approximately 15 minutes before the parade arrives. St. John Parish, as well as representatives from both parades, ask everyone remain safe along the parade routes and also be mindful of state and parish project construction sites.
Emergency responders have developed a plan for response during parade times.
Due to the Mardi Gras holiday, there will be no garbage collection on Tuesday.
Collection will resume Wednesday for Tuesday and Wednesday routes.
Residents are asked to put their garbage can out by 7 p.m. Tuesday.
In addition, Parish offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
The St. John Parish Council Meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Percy Hebert Building Council Chambers in LaPlace.
