RESERVE — A Reserve teen is in jail, charged with second-degree attempted murder.

The case began after a call came in to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Nov. 12 that a victim had been struck in the head with a weapon and shot at.

Deputies responded to the 1200 block of Ellerslie Drive in LaPlace after the call at 12:23 p.m.

The resulting investigation, Sgt. Dane Clement said, led deputies to believe Davone Malane Tyler, 17, hit an acquaintance on the head with a handgun.

Moments after the assault, the victim tried to leave in a car. As the victim was driving away, Tyler shot at the victim, Clement said.

“The incident occurred on East 13th Street in Reserve,” Clement said. “The victim drove to Ellerslie Drive and called the Sheriffs’ Office. The relationship between the two was that they were acquaintances, they knew each other.”

Clement said he is unaware if the handgun used to hit the victim over the head was the same weapon the suspect used in the shooting.

Tyler was arrested Nov. 19 and is still in jail in lieu of a $205,000 bond.
