Keller: Jindal does well early, Trump falters at debates’ end

Wednesday evening, I watched both of the Republic debates.

In the first one, with only four of the least likely to get the nomination debating, Governor Bobby Jindal was by far the winner.

I’m not a fan of Jindal, but he stood out against the other three — former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, George Pataki of New York and U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

In my opinion, the second debate with 11 candidates was a circus. Donald Trump was the big loser.

It was a sideshow for a few moments between Trump and Carly Fiorina, the only woman in the G.O.P. field. Fiorina was the winner in the battle of words.

I’m not an admirer of Donald Trump. I think it’s all about him, but I do admit he handles the “bully” pulpit well.

All week I was looking forward to the debates, because of the first ones a few weeks ago. Trump didn’t steal the show, but he did quench the spirit of what should have been a serious debate about America’s future.

I agree with what Bobby Jindal said last night in the earlier debate. He said, “It’s time other candidates quit defending Trump. Let’s stop treating him like a Republican.”

I believe he is more liberal than many Democrats. Like Jindal, I think he is the only one of all the candidates that Hillary Clinton can beat.

In my opinion, the big winner last night was U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, with Fiorina, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and Dr. Carson doing well.

Keep in mind that the election is over a year away.
