LAPLACE — Splashing and swimming will start at St. John the Baptist Parish public pools Tuesday, as the Parks and Recreation Department will begin its summer swimming season with the opening of the two parish pools.

The East Bank pool is located at 194 Regala Park Road in Reserve and the West Bank pool is located at 136 Castle Drive in Edgard.

“We continue to make improvements to the East Bank and West Bank pools to provide a better experience to our residents,” Parish President Natalie Robottom said. “By offering a swim program in our parish, our children and their parents are more comfortable around water.”

The pools will be open to the public Tuesday through Sunday throughout the summer, and admission is $1 per swimmer.

Hours of operation are 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 2 to 5 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday and Sunday, the East Bank pool will be open from 2 to 6 p.m., while the West Bank pool will be open from 2 to 5 p.m.

Public Information Officer Baileigh Rebowe Helm said the pool will remain open until the Sunday before Labor Day, adding there is a lifeguard on duty at all time during open swim hours.

Helm said children under the age of 6 must by accompanied by a parent and proper swimwear is necessary, as swimming in T-shirts, jeans or shorts is not allowed.

“No outside food and drinks can be brought in except for bottled water,” Helm said, adding concessions will be available for purchase.

She said the parish is finalizing plans to offer free swimming lessons this summer as part of its swimming program.

Organizers said the parish’s summer camps will have an opportunity to use the facility during private hours.
